Tips for Dewali Decoration

Publise by Himanshu Raj  Date=1August 2020
Like any other festivals Diwali gets you engaged in the routine cleaning and decorating process. Interior designer Sneha Samtani gives different ideas to beautify your home this Diwali season.

10 tips to decorate your home during Diwali
  1. Use beautiful torans of beads and pearls to decorate the entrance for Diwali. Vertical strings with checkered designs can also be used here.
  2. 2 If you have a spare wood plank at home, glue fabric on it and border it with lace. Add 3 – 4 motifs diagonally and place 3 – 4 diyas on both the sides. This acts as a welcoming sign for guests. You can use pearls as well to decorate. This is a cost-effective and eco-friendly option.
  3. 3 Add water to a copper vessel in such a way that the vessel is half full. Then put some shimmer to it. You can also add yellow flowers, floating diyas and either place it at the corner of your house or on a small stool.
  4. 4 For women who are very busy during this festive time with other responsibilites, a simple glass bowl with flowers will do the trick. You can also place this bowl with flowers and a diya in the centre of the kitchen to get the Diwali feel. For a feel good factor, you can add perfume to it.
  5. 5 The green bangles used by Indian women can be used to hang on the doors with a sacred thread used in pooja in the centre. Individual threads can have separate bangles. You can use sets of 4 or 5 bangles and hang it on your balcony. It can act as a wind chime as well.
  6. 6 Instead of a large paper lantern, go for smaller ones, suspended in a bunch for a refreshing twist. You can either purchase them or make them at home for a customized look and feel.
  7. 7 To add fragrance to your home, you can have scented candles and cover them with glasses of unique shape. This recreates the festive zeal to a great extent. You can use this when you have a pooja with friends, family or guests.
  8. 8 Use candles of different sizes and shapes to light up dull corners and empty spaces. Also, a display of assorted candles can be used in different heights and widths in cream and gold. You can also work with lights such as floor or table lamps or even pendant lights to create a cozy and soothing ambience.
  9. 9 Pick colourful upholstery if your sofa is the main centre piece in the living room to add focus to this piece of furniture.
  10. 10 Place candles and then cover them with coloured glass on a shelf or behind the furniture. Make sure the dispersed light falls on the wall. The effect would be similar to a shimmering rainbow.

    Thread lanterns
Thread lanterns are so very simple to make and unbelievably magnificent when putting up with lights. You are going to need some glue-like Fevicol, a bowl, balloons, cotton yarn, and water to make the lanterns.
First of all, mix some glue with a little of the water in a bowl. Put the whole of yarn in it and keep it aside for some minutes. Then, take a blown-up balloon and start winding the yarn all around it tightly and randomly till you get the desired pattern. Let the glue dry for some hours. When it all dries off burst the balloon and pull it out of the lantern. Insert the string lights in it and hang it up anywhere you wish.
